FIRST AND FOREMOST, CITYSTUDIO IS THE DESIRE TO DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY.

Modelled on the success of CityStudio Vancouver, CityStudio Greater Montreal is an initiative that allows universities and city staff to work together to tackle urban challenges of the Montreal metropolis.

CITYSTUDIO ALSO MEANS LEARNING BY DOING.

Using an experiential learning approach, CityStudio Greater Montreal provides an opportunity for students to research, develop, and prototype solutions to real-world challenges. It also provides cities staff with an opportunity to see their projects and issues in a different light. By doing so, CityStudio plays an important role in building a culture of innovation.

FINALLY, CITYSTUDIO IS A COLLABORATIVE SPACE.

Our cities are faced with complex challenges. By collaborating and breaking down silos, we are more likely to identify meaningful solutions that will improve our communities. With this in mind, CityStudio Greater Montreal serves as a facilitator and accelerator in creating and strengthening collaborative relationships between complementary networks.

How does CityStudio Greater Montreal work?

Convene City Staff

Once a year, we convene cities staff to identify urban issues and strategic aims specific to the Greater Montreal that require further insight.

Design projects together

As part of their coursework, students work with cities staff to co-create pilot projects for the benefit of the community.

SHARE AND SCALE PROJECTS

The results are presented at Voilà!, a celebratory showcase where students, cities staff, and elected officials come together to explore the prototypes and pilot projects, share thoughts, and implement the most promising of the proposals.

Match projects with FACULTIES

We match these projects with courses at our partner universities, ensuring a strong fit between city needs and faculty expertise.

LAUNCH PROJECTS IN PUBLIC

Final projects are launched by students as experiments and pilot projects in the community to test the solutions to the challenges.
